Since switching, my website is a lot faster and that's really important to me because I know that every second of extra load time means more people leave my site... As a side note, I like knowing that my servers are safe within Canada. Overall the service is noticeably better and costs less than some of the other more "mainstream" companies I've hosted with in the past. Would recommend.
We switched from a big-name American-based hosting provider 2 weeks ago and it's the best decision we have made for our business. Canspace had our site fully migrated over within 30 minutes after signing up, and their live chat support has been extremely helpful. As an added bonus we now pay all our bills in Canadian dollars and load times have been much faster when compared to our last host. A+ experience and we would highly recommend them.
We've been with CanSpace for about 6 months now and have nothing but excellent things to say. Our site loads drastically faster than with our previous hosts, and their support guys are always very thorough and professional - we've never waited longer than 10 minutes for a response.
Two days ago I updated a Wordpress plugin that caused our site to go down - I opened a support ticket asking for urgent support (and offering to pay for assistance as this really wasn't their fault). Fortunately the guys at CanSpace had seen this issue before and had our site back up and running in about 7 minutes after I submitted the ticket (and at no charge) - thanks again! Would recommend without hesitation.
We were on a shared hosting account with no problems and the speed was good. We switched to a VPS and that's when the hosting problems started. They were very slow in responding to our inquiries, and the hosting was almost the same speed (VPS) as it was with the shared hosting. We switched to another VPS and the speed difference was dramatic (at half the cost).
The major concern with this company is that when you call them you get a voicemail and they are slow to respond to tickets. This was during the middle of a business day (Monday). Definitely would not recommend this hosting company to anyone based on their slow response time and inability to answer the phone.
The VPS provided to this customer was a completely clean install of cPanel/CentOS (hardened by our VPS team) which we've set up for hundreds of other VPS clients without any performance issue - any performance issues were likely caused by the web application in use itself. Please note this was a fully managed solution - it is certainly possible to pay less for a faster server, but the level of service would not be nearly as high.
Voicemails are always responded to within 10 minutes if a call is not answered. This client's particular issues were not related to our services, but in fact because they had canceled their services with us before transferring their domain to their new service provider. Because of this they were experiencing downtime with their emails which was of course not our fault - but rather because their new provider was simply taking too long to set up their new account.
We were of course sympathetic and did offer alternative solutions to restore their email services in the meanwhile, but the client ultimately did not decide to take advantage of them.
